Home Health Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants, Nursing Aides, Geriatric Care Workers and a host of titles are given to those professing to care for others (I choose to exclude RNs and higher categories of nurses as they rarely spend long hours with ailing individuals).
The 'others' - babies, children, teenagers, young and older adults, some disabled.
We place the hope of the generations in the hands of individuals who may or may not be fully desirous of filling their new roles as caregivers.
In the world today, demand exceeds availability of caregivers and there exists an increasing number of jobless individuals. The caregiver job becomes an easy way to meet financial need. Problem though, many caregivers never dreamed of caring for another.
Are they prepared for the tasks?
Are they in it for the long haul?
Can they be taught to care, to show love?
Are they willing to follow the instructions of the hiring institutions or family?
Are they willing to make sacrifices for the good of the others?
Are they willing to learn to assist others in managing their health and well being?
Having focused on the health and wellbeing of indiviuals for the past nine years I aim to guide cargeivers toward promoting life and not simply performing tasks to manage health. The goal should be to stimulate mental growth, boost the spirit, advocate based on needs, restore joy, peace and hope in living.
I guarantee that your life will be enriched and you will leave your job anxious to return the following day.
